What is Urban Drainage?

As most home owners know during heavy rainfall their streets may be flooded and seem to have standing water. Most city systems were built and designed to handle the amount of water accrued by a 10-year storm. What is a 10-year storm – a storm that has a 10% of occurring in a year. Heavy storms may overload drainage systems resulting in backed-up ditches and sewers causing shallow flooding.
